Mama Bird’s Ice Cream is a handmade ice cream company based in Holly Springs, NC. We take a lot of pride in our shops and our ice cream is a reflection of the local communities that we love and serve. We’re looking for friendly, inquisitive go-getters to scoop ice cream this summer and beyond. Our scoopers are the heart, soul, and the face of our company, so we strive to take care of each other so that we can take care of our guests.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Welcome and thank every customer
- Offer samples and menu suggestions to all who enter
- Scoop ice cream to create one of a kind sweet treat
- Handle a high-pressure environment
- Be attentive to keep shop looking clean and organized and fully stocked
- Continually stock ice cream, waffle cones, and cookies as it’s purchased
- Operate cash register and follow cash handling procedures
- Wash dishes throughout your shift
- Follow health, safety, and sanitation guidelines
- Other duties and obligations as assigned

Qualifications
- Strong communication skills
- Friendly and positive attitude
- Be at least 16 years old
- Be available at least 1 weekday and at least 1 weekend day

Job Overview
Shop managers are responsible for their store’s overall look and feel, the quality of customer experiences in the shop, meeting sale and profitability targets, and maintaining high team morale. The right person for the job has experience working in a fast pace environment, shows passion for leading happy, productive teams, and creates and maintains systems for sustainable excellence. They demonstrate great customer service and people skills, a passion for developing empowered, accountable team members, and the determination and focus to strive sales and profits in our growing community. The shop manager is responsible for partnering with the leadership team to meet their shop’s financial, cultural and food safety standards.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Meet sales and labor goals for store
- Provide outstanding customer service
- Work collaboratively with owners
- Participate in monthly leadership and planning meetings as needed
- Hire and train staff
- Motivate and inspire staff to provide a one of a kind experience
- Communicate with all staff in a friendly and professional manor
- Be able to think on your feet, solve problems and use good judgement that will positively affect the store.
- Recommend and execute strategic changes within store
- Manage all operational processes including but not limited to: inventory management, daily deposits, scheduling, strategic planning, and hiring of new staff.
- Coordinate the store opening and closing activities
- Manager the daily tracking of the store scooping performance and ensure that the scooping percentage is within the suggested operating standards
- Create and implement a marketing plan
Qualifications
- Have great communication skills and a professional and friendly attitude
- Have retail management experience that includes leadership of 10 or more
- Be available to work nights and weekends with at least 3 closing shifts a week
- Be at least 18 years of age or older
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Have access to a cell phone that has text and a data plan
- A working knowledge of Microsoft software and Google
Working conditions
Shop Managers control much of their schedule but must work 4 days in the shop while staff are on site. Shop managers are responsible for responding to emergencies and day to day issues even when scheduled off and can get to the store in a timely manner if need be.
compensation
- This role is full-time 30 – 35 hours a week with a $15 hour wage guarantee, after an initial probationary period of 30 days. This means a base rate plus tips will be at a minimum of $17 per hour. Employees are eligible for incremental, merit-based raises.

Job Overview
As the Assistant Manager, you’ll have a lot of face time with guests and employees. You’ll act as quality control, ensuring customer satisfaction by properly training employees and adhering to company policies. You’ll oversee service, take the lead resolving issues, and cover when the Manager is off duty or working on other projects.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Assist the Manager in the complete retail operations of the Scoop Shop, including the planning, operations, and marketing
- Work with the team to ensure that the implementation of all systems fully support and comply with all operating systems.
- Assist the Manager in the hiring and orientation of staff
- Conduct in-store training and performance evaluation for all Scoopers.
- Direct day-to-day operations including store and staff appearance, customer service, cleanliness, compliance with all safety and operating standards, merchandising and production and inventory levels of all paper products, stored and tempered ice cream, waffle cones, novelties, and baked goods
- Ensure customer satisfaction, by role modeling the practices of friendly, timely service and proper product handling
- Coordinate the store opening and closing activities
- Assist the Manager in the daily tracking of the store scooping performance and ensure that the scooping percentage is within the suggested operating standards
- Maintain the systems established by the Manager that will ensure the accuracy of all register, cash transactions, and daily sales and deposit summary reports
- Assist the Manager in the storage, and logging of all inventories
- Assist the Manager in the implementation of the marketing plan
- Assist the Manager in meeting the performance goals of the store
- Participate in store planning and development meetings with the Manager

Job Overview
Mama Bird’s Ice Cream Maker works at our Holly Springs facility to create Mama Bird’s ice creams, sorbets and desserts while upholding the company’s high manufacturing standards.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Produce ice cream according to the daily production schedule
- Follow the recipe and production protocol explicitly: carefully weigh and measure all ingredients as specified.
- Maintain a clean and organized space during production
- Follow appropriate manufacturing practices while handling products and equipment
- Complete and file daily production logs
- Always be on the lookout for ways to improve efficiency
- Follow all health code regulations and complete daily cleaning checklist
- Multi-tasking (at least three different projects at once!)
- Possess the ability to work collaboratively with the Production Manager and other members of the kitchen staff.
- Complete daily, weekly and monthly inventory and receiving logs.
Qualifications
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
- High school diploma or GED required
- Must be able to read and follow instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Must be available to work at least 30 hours/week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed seasonally. Demand will increase during the peak summer season
- Must pass a background screening if offered a position
- Basic math skills including portions and percentages with an understanding of metric and US standard volume and weights
